A case designed to protect nonportable typewriters, adding, subtracting, or calculating machines in the field. Excludes CASE (as modified) by specific office machine names.

ADDING AND SUBTRACTING MACHINE

A machine designed to add a number of figures and subtract any figure automatically. It will not divide automatically. It may print the numbers on a tape, or indicate the figures in a single row of openings (dial) or multiple row of openings (dials) at top or bottom of the machine. See also ACCOUNTING MACHINE; ADDING MACHINE; and CALCULATING MACHINE.

ACCOUNTING MACHINE

A machine designed to maintain bookkeeping records, such as fiscal accounting, budgetary accounting, payroll records, and billing, by printing the figures directly upon a prepared form, such as a ledger sheet or a bankbook page, automatically spacing the figures in their proper columns. ADDING MACHINE

A machine designed to add a number of figures. It will not subtract, multiply, or divide automatically. It prints the numbers on a tape. See also ACCOUNTING MACHINE; ADDING AND SUBTRACTING MACHINE and CALCULATING MACHINE.

KEYBOARD,DATA ENTRY

A device for data input by key depression which causes the generation of the selected character, numeral or the like.

KEYTOP,KEYBOARD

An item usually marked with letter(s), numeral(s), or other character(s) designed to be attached to a key lever of a typewriter, accounting and calculating machien, office type composing machine keyboard or KEYBOARD, DATA ENTRY for the purpose of affording fingertip operation.

CALCULATOR,ELECTRONIC

A small computerized device which performs arithmetic calculations. It may have keys which calculate algebraic, trigonometric, or other functions. A device which provides facilities for electronic storage and retrieval of data such as Telephone Directory, Schedules, Calendars, Memos, and the like.

TYPEWRITER

An electrically or manually operated writing machine having a hand actuated keyboard, designed to reproduce letter(s), number(s), and/or symbol(s) similar to those produced by printer's type. When the keys are actuated, the type is pressed against an inked ribbon or carbon tape, making the impression.

CASE,FIELD,OFFICE MACHINE

COMPOSING MACHINE,CHANGEABLE TYPE-PLATE STYLE

A typewriter-like machine on which a variety of changeable print-style type and sizes may be used for the preparation of stencils and master copy for duplicating, photostating, blueprinting and offset printing.

COMPOSING UNIT,AUTOMATIC,PUNCHED TAPE TYPE

A unit consisting of two typewriterlike machines, a recorder and reproducer element. The recorder is manually operated and produces a visible copy and punched paper tape simultaneously. The punched tape is coded to automatically provide an even right hand margin by means of proportional spacing when tape is run through the reproducer element of the unit. It is used to prepare aluminum or paper offset plate or other duplicating masters.

BELL,CARRIAGE POSITION

An item generally round in shape used on typewriters, teletypewriters, and other similar equipment having movable carriages. It produces a ringing sound when the carriage reaches a predetermined position.

COMPOSING MACHINE,PHOTO PRINTING TYPE

A unit into which is placed a disk font having letters, numerals, characters and punctuation marks imprinted thereon, as on a photographic negative. The disk is turned by a knob to bring the desired character into position for printing. An exposure button is pressed and a positive of the character is reproduced on a photosensitized paper tape which is developed and fixed automatically. The tape may then be pasted onto copy to act as a display and the like.

TYPEWRITER-PUNCH-READER,TAPE

An electric typewriter with an integral punch unit, or synchronized with a punch unit, which produces punched tape as a by-product of the typing operation and reads the punched tape for automatic operation of units actuated by punched paper tape.

KEYTOP,KEYBOARD

An item usually marked with letter(s), numeral(s), or other character(s) designed to be attached to a key lever of a typewriter, accounting and calculating machien, office type composing machine keyboard or KEYBOARD, DATA ENTRY for the purpose of affording fingertip operation.

PLATEN,PRINTER

A device used to retain the platen on various types of printing devices (printers, teletypes type setting and the like). Excludes HOLDER (1), ROLLER.

WORD PROCESSING SYSTEM

A group of interconnected items which may include such items as a typewriter, keyboard, video screen, printer, controller and the like, for input and output as well as for processing, compiling and editing of text. A word indicating device may be included. The system may have transmitting facilities so that it can be used as a terminal for video text transmissions. Excludes ADPE type equipment.

INFORMATION CENTER,OFFICE

A multifunction software driven device designed to perform the functions of a COPYING MACHINE (AS MODIFIED); an OPTICAL READER,DATA ENTRY; a PRINTER,AUTOMATIC DATA PROCESSING; and/or a RECEIVER-TRANSMITTER,FACSIMILE. May also include other functions such as telephone with or without built-in answering service.

REWINDER,SOUND RECORDING TAPE

A device designed to transfer sound recording tape from one reel to another. It may include reels.

A complete set for making a record of sonic variations that may be afterwards reproduced on a compatible sound reproducer.

A single component specifically designed to make a record of sonic variations.

DISK,SOUND RECORDING

A flat circular item, rigid or flexible, upon which sonic vibarations are recorded and reproduced by electronic, magnetic, mechanical, or laser-beam techniques. It is specifically designed for use as a medium for sound recording and reproduction.

CYLINDER,SOUND RECORDING

A rigid sleeve which is designed to be inscribed by a stylus responding to sonic variation and which is specifically designed for use as a medium for sound recording and reproduction.

RECORDER-REPRODUCER ASSEMBLY,SOUND

Two or more separate sound recorder-reproducers having a common mounting or mounted on each other.

ARM,SOUND RECORDER

An item of rigid construction, long in proportion to its width and thickness, pivoted at one end, and designed to hold the recording cartridge of a sound recorder. May include the recording cartridge and stylus.

An item consisting of a reproducer turntable, associated drive motor and sound reproducer arm mounted on a common support. May include a mechanism for automatically changing disk records. A carriage which is part of a recorder-reproducer and designed to mount a recorder-reproducer cartridge.

HEAD ASSEMBLY,READ-WRITE

A specifically designed component assembly which reads, records or erases information in a storage medium, usually a stack of electromagnets arranged geometrically, used to read, write or erase data in digital form on a magnetic drum, disk or magnetic tape.

A rigid rectangular sheet with a pivot rod, lugs, eyelets, or similar means for attaching to a rotary stand, to a desk stand, to a wall bracket, in a ringbook, or the like. An item consisting of a metal support on which is mounted two or more removable sheet holder sections, each of which is used to retain a collection of loose-leaf sheets, catalogs and the like, for easy reference.

STAND,VISIBLE INDEX FILE FRAME

A stand designed to support and hold in position FRAME, VISIBLE INDEX FILE for quick reference. It is self-supporting and not intended to be attached to any surface.

CONTROL BOARD,PEG-TAPE TYPE

An item designed with a series of evenly spaced holes extending across the board.
